With that in mind, Five-Minute Friday today is a short holiday greeting from me to you and your loved ones. I hope you’re able to make time this year to slow down and spend quality time with family and friends. Last year, many folks were unable to travel during the holiday season due to pandemic restrictions — I hope that the conditions have eased a bit wherever you are, and if not, then I hope you can make the most of connecting virtually.

It’s easy in a fast-moving field like data science to be constantly chasing the next skill to learn, the next paper to read, the next commercial application to crack, or the next podcast episode to listen to, that the opportunities to connect with loved ones pass us by. Well, don’t let it happen this year. Make extra time for hugs, for laughter, and for warmth. You never know when this holiday season might be the last one you get to spend with a special person in your life.

Throughout this holiday season, I hope you find joy, curiosity, and peace in abundance — and I hope that that continues for you like never before in the coming new year.
